Sunnyside School District 7th Annual Golden Apple Awards |

The purpose of the Golden Apple Awards is to: |
 | Reward excellence in teaching in the Sunnyside School District |
 | Encourage creative and quality instruction |
 | Encourage the development of a positive learning environment |
 | Encourage excellent teachers and staff members to remain in the education field |
 | Provide incentive for individual initiative on the part of teachers and staff members |
 | Contribute in a substantive way to the improvement of education in Sunnyside Schools |

 | Nomination Procedures |
|
- Nominations may be submitted by any of the following: School support groups, students, former students, parents, administrators, other teachers or community members. Individuals may not nominate themselves.
- Nominations must be submitted using our online form. Nominations must include the following:
- A fully completed nomination form, including the name of the nominee, his/her school building, grade level, subjects taught or duties performed, nominator's name and phone number, one paragraph regarding the nominee's school-related responsibilities and contributions and one paragraph explaining why your nominee is deserving of recognition.
- All nomination forms must be submitted electronically by:
Wednesday, April 30th, 2008.
- The district's cabinet team will review all nominations and make final selections for each category. All winners and nominees will be recognized at the School Board Meeting and social scheduled for May 22st, 2008.

 | Nomination Categories |
|
| Teacher of the Year (2) | A certificated classroom teacher in grades K-12. Two separate awards will be given - one to a primary teacher (K-5) and one to a secondary teacher (6-12). |
| Specialist of the Year (1) | A certificated specialist - counselors, librarians, nurses, fitness instructor or reading specialist. |
| Para Educator of the Year (2) | A full-time para educator at any grade level. |
| Secretary of the Year (1) | A secretary and or office staff member in any building. |
| Substitute of the Year (1) | A certified or classified substitute serving in any building. |
| Support Staff of the Year (2) | A classified staff member serving in a support position - transportation, food service, custodian, maintenance, security, technology, home liaison, etc. |
| Volunteer of the Year (1 or 2) | A volunteer serving in any of the buildings. |
| Administrator of the Year (1) | A principal, assistant principal or director at any building - selected by the Superintendent and the School Board. |

 | Nomination Criteria |
|
| Winners of the Golden Apple Awards must demonstrate dedication to children and education. They must have a reputation for professionalism and have the respect of both staff and students. The award winners will constantly go out of their way to help others and consistently look for new ways to positively influence the lives of children. |
